Wizards Beyond Waverly Place Brings Magic Back!
Disney has launched Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, a brand-new series following Justin Russo as he trains a powerful young wizard named Billie.
Magic wands and glowing spells have officially made a comeback on our screens. Disney Channel premiered its brand-new fantasy comedy series, Wizards Beyond Waverly Place, on 29 October 2024 in California, United States, with a special two-episode broadcast. The magical excitement quickly travelled across the globe when the first eight episodes became available for online streaming on Disney+ on 30 October 2024.
This exciting new television programme is the official continuation of the beloved, Emmy Award-winning series Wizards of Waverly Place, which originally entertained families between 2007 and 2012. Many years have passed since the original story ended, bringing fresh characters and surprising challenges to this wizarding world.
What happened?
In the new story, actor David Henrie returns to play his famous role as Justin Russo. Justin has grown up, set aside his magical powers, and chosen to live a normal, peaceful life with his mortal family. He lives happily with his wife Giada, played by Mimi Gianopulos, and their two energetic sons, Roman, played by Alkaio Thiele, and Milo, played by Max Matenko.
Everything changes when his sister, Alex Russo, suddenly turns up at his home. Global pop superstar and actress Selena Gomez, who also works as an executive producer on the show, makes a special guest appearance as Alex in the very first episode. She does not arrive alone, however. Alex brings along a rebellious, 14-year-old apprentice wizard named Billie, portrayed by young actress Janice LeAnn Brown.
Billie possesses immense, untamed magical abilities and urgently requires proper guidance. Justin decides to pick up his magical wand once more to become her mentor. Balancing household chores, family life, and lessons for a powerful wizard-in-training is not easy. Together with Billie’s friend Winter, played by Taylor Cora, the family must learn to work as a team while Justin strives to safeguard the future of the Wizard World.
Before arriving on television screens, the series celebrated its world premiere on 28 October 2024 at the famous El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, followed by a party at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel. The series was developed by writers and executive producers Jed Elinoff and Scott Thomas, using characters originally created by Todd J. Greenwald. Fans might also be pleased to know that former Disney stars Raven-Symoné and Danielle Fishel directed episodes during this debut season.
Why does it matter to you?
Even though magical spells and flying carpets are fictional, the adventures in this series mirror the real-life situations that children in India face every day. Just like Billie, many of us sometimes feel a bit rebellious, misunderstood, or overwhelmed when learning difficult new skills, whether it is solving tricky maths problems or practising for a school play.
The story teaches us that making mistakes is completely normal as you grow up. What truly counts is having the courage to try again and having supportive family members or teachers who believe in you. Justin and his family show that love, teamwork, and laughter can help anyone overcome chaotic moments, even when your magical spells turn upside down!
