‘Chief Minister’s My School’ Initiative: Change in Evaluation Method

The Maharashtra government has introduced a significant change in the evaluation method under the ‘Chief Minister’s My School’ initiative. As per the new decision, private schools will now be assessed using a separate evaluation system, distinct from government and aided schools.

The revised evaluation framework has been approved following the review of feedback received during the initial phases of the scheme. The Education Department has issued official orders in this regard.

Background of the Decision

The ‘Chief Minister’s My School’ programme aims to improve the quality of education in schools across the state by assessing them on academic and infrastructural parameters. Initially, both government and private schools were being evaluated using a common grading and scoring system.

However, concerns were raised that applying the same assessment standards to all types of schools did not accurately reflect the differences in infrastructure, resources, and student demographics. After considering these concerns, the state government decided to revise the evaluation method.

New Evaluation Method

Under the revised system:

  • Private schools will be evaluated using a separate grading formula

  • The grading will be based on parameters such as academic performance, student progress, teaching quality, and school management

  • The evaluation will be conducted using a point-based assessment system

  • Marks obtained by students in examinations will be converted into scores for school grading

The Education Department clarified that this new method will ensure a more realistic and fair comparison among schools.

‘Pattern-Based Evaluation’ (Pat-Dur) System

The department has announced that schools’ performance will be assessed through a “pattern-based evaluation” system. Under this system, the academic results of students will be analysed, and scores will be converted into grades accordingly.

To ensure uniformity, all private schools will be assessed using the same revised pattern, while government and aided schools will continue under the existing evaluation structure.

Implementation Timeline

According to officials, the revised evaluation method will be implemented from the upcoming academic assessment cycle. The grading will apply to schools from Class 3 onwards, and evaluation data will be collected and analysed centrally.

Number of Schools Affected

As per official data, approximately 16,000 private schools across Maharashtra will now be evaluated using the new assessment method under the ‘Chief Minister’s My School’ initiative.

Objective of the Change

The primary objective of introducing a separate evaluation method is to ensure transparency, fairness, and accuracy in school grading. Education officials stated that the new system will help identify genuine academic performance and assist in policy planning and educational reforms.

Conclusion

The change in evaluation methodology under the ‘Chief Minister’s My School’ programme marks an important step towards refining school assessment standards in Maharashtra. By adopting separate criteria for private schools, the government aims to create a balanced and equitable framework that reflects ground realities while continuing to improve overall education quality.
